Consultant Bios

Tim Stair
Tim has been assisting not-for-profit organizations with market assessment, marketing plan development and strategic planning for 25 years. He has conducted over 100 market studies in 20+ states. 

Tim consults with clients around mission and values integration and education, strategic planning, market assessment and strategies, executive coaching and spirituality in the workplace. Tim is a graduate of Goshen College and Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary, and is pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing from Murray State University.

Rick Stiffney, Ph.D.
Rick serves as President/CEO with MHS Alliance. Rick has worked for over 25 years in various health and human service leadership capacities.  He consults widely with organizations on executive development, strategic positioning/planning, organizational development, and not-for-profit board training/development.

Rick earned his Ph.D. in organizational management in early 2010, focusing his dissertation work on exploring how executives of Mennonite/Anabaptist nonprofit health and human service organizations view their role and work in shaping organizational identity.

MHS Alliance represents over 70 not-for-profit providers in the U.S. including mental health organizations, developmental disabilities providers, hospitals, nursing homes and retirement communities.

Keith R. Stuckey, MBA, MS
Keith serves as vice president with MHS Alliance.  He leads the development of joint ventures and oversees programs such as the Anabaptist Providers Group and MHS Alliance-sponsored Medical Expense Plan. Keith provides strategic and operational consultation to members and clients, and directs our Consulting Practice.

Prior to joining MHS Alliance, Keith was President of Tel Hai Retirement Community in Pennsylvania, where he successfully focused on strengthening the financial position of the organization and implemented a major residential building project.  Keith holds a Masters in Business Administration from the Wharton School and a Master of Science in Mathematics. 

Dennis Eshleman
Dennis has spent the last four years as Founder and President of Eshleman Consulting. He has developed a successful strategic and marketing consulting practice focused on the needs of small business and not-for-profit organizations following 28 years of successful general management, marketing and new business development in consumer packaged goods with $600 million in new business creation.

Dennis Russell
Dennis works with organizations wanting to convert strategic initiatives into detailed operational plans, monitors industry trends, facilitates strategic planning and helps organizations manage the restructuring needed for market re-positioning.

He has spent the last 23 years working as a nursing home administrator, State Association Director of Government Affairs, Regional Vice President for Pacific Retirement Services, and CEO of two faith-based Continuing Care Retirement Communities.

Dennis is currently CEO of Friendsview Retirement Community, helping the organization complete a $45 million expansion.

Lee Schmucker, MBA
Lee consults and coaches with organizations on governance development, strategic planning, board and executive coaching, leadership training, executive team development, and workplace culture development.

Programs and services are specifically designed for each client. Lee often uses surveys, assessments, and research techniques to refine the targeted needs and accelerate progress toward board and organizational goals. She specializes in customized leadership training for senior and/or middle management.

Shirley H. Showalter, Ph.D.
Shirley offers consultation to CEOs and boards on creating a successful fundraising program by building a culture of generosity, caring relationships, and gratitude. She also specializes in executive coaching, including remedial coaching to bring a leader into greater confidence and skill, developmental coaching and strengths-based team-building.

Prior to joining MHS Alliance, Shirley served as president of Goshen College, where she oversaw significant growth of the endowment and several building projects. She is also an experienced foundation executive, serving as Vice President-Programs of the Fetzer Institute, where she supervised staff who distributed more than $60 million.

Kirk Stiffney, MBA
Kirk serves as the lead consultant for our executive search services.  An MBA graduate from Penn State University, Kirk has extensive professional experience in both the not for profit and for profit sectors. He is a licensed Nursing Home Administrator, served as a Vice President for one of the Midwest’s largest faith-based retirement communities and has extensive skills in working with boards of directors.  Has a rich understanding of the skills and values required for a CEO to succeed.

Early in his career, Kirk worked for an international information services/consulting company that provided research and consulting services to Fortune 500 companies.  He led teams of people that delivered market research and strategic planning services to client senior management.  During this tenure, he lived in New York, Southern New Jersey, and Chicago.

LaVern Yutzy, MSHA, MSW
LaVern provides executive coaching for CEOs and senior executives.  He also serves as a consultant in governance development, strategic planning and works with organizations exploring affiliations and mergers.  He is responsible for administration of executive search engagements and board and CEO assessments.  Prior to joining MHS Alliance, LaVern served as CEO of Philhaven, a mental health organization in south central Pennsylvania.

LaVern holds a master’s degree in health administration from Medical College of Virginia/VCU and a master’s degree in social work from The Ohio State University.
